Volunteer participation is an important part of the overall plan to involve the community in the smooth and fiscally responsible operation of the Collingwood Arts Center. Your volunteer time will provide you with the opportunity to make friends and try new experiences. When you volunteer, you give your time, skills and energy. So, roll up your sleeves and get involved!
Applications are collected on an ongoing basis but we only contact applicants for interviews/training as need arises.
As a nonprofit organization, the objective of our volunteer positions is to provide quality service to patrons attending events, to assist in event preparation and conclusion, and maintain the structure and infrastructure of the CAC. It is our pleasure to invite you to apply for the following volunteer positions:
Usher, Ticket Taker, Greeter:
We need people to assist patrons of the theatre to their seats and prepare and distribute printed materials such as programs. If you are a polite individual with solid customer service ability and believe that each person is to be treated with dignity and respect this position is for you. Actively assist patrons in times of emergency and complete all aspects of emergency evacuation training annually. This position does require you to stand for long periods of time (upwards of 5 hours) and climb stairs repeatedly. We will need you to arrive 90 minutes prior to any performance you work and remain 45 minutes following the performance.
We are fortunate to have some open green space. Our garden includes plants and trees. If you have a green thumb or just like to rake leaves, do some watering, and/or general gardening, then please join our garden team. Volunteers will help to remove trash from the grounds, mulch, weed flower beds, maintain current plants, and assist in new plantings.
Administrative & Box Office Work:
There are many duties associated with the administration of this fine building and our theatre box office. At varying times, we need assistance with daily functions such as data-entry, maintaining the customer database, filing, answering phones, stuffing envelopes or programs, preparing mass mailings or will-call tickets, and general organization of office space. Some of our volunteers greet visitors, answer phones, and process sales from our boutique. A pleasant phone voice and proficiency in Microsoft Office is important.
There are many beautiful and interesting spaces in this grandiose facility. Occasionally, we may provide building tours and educational programs. If you would like to assist the CAC in guiding groups through educational tours of the building, we would love to hear from you. Because of the nature of our building, this position does require a great deal of walking and the ability to climb stairs repeatedly.
We have numerous events and fundraisers throughout the year. Our fundraisers are lively and celebratory. We could always use help in setting up, preparing, and serving at our events. This is a great way to meet other people who share your interest in the arts. Volunteers are vital to our fundraising activities.
This wonderful old building needs some TLC from time to time. Are you good at repairs or general maintenance? We would love to have you as part of our Building Team.
Deliver rack cards, postcards, flyers, and other promotional material to various businesses in the area.
From event photographs to publicity photos, we are always in need of photographers.
Those applicants chosen to volunteer at the CAC will be rewarded first and foremost with our gratitude for their time and talents. Volunteers are vital to the success of the CAC and we know this will be a rewarding experience for all!
